The City of Eternal Spring

June 1, 2011

Did you know that there is a place where the weather is almost the same every day? Yes, in Medellin, Antioquia - Colombia, a typical day is usually a pleasant one with temperatures no higher than 80 at daytime, then a light late afternoon shower, and finally, a cool rainless night. This is why the city is aptly titled “The City of Eternal Spring”. Should you ever get to try the place and look around, the best way to go is thru Medellin car rental. The charming roadsides and the fantastic scenery metits a slow, lazy drive all over the city.

Bantayan Escapade

October 6, 2010

Bantayan Island is one of the most well-visited island here in the Philippines and slowly becoming a favorite summer destination of tourists in the country. Its appeal is comparable to Boracay, Dakak, and Palawan, with its clean white beaches, caves, and many interesting tourist sites. If you haven’t been here yet, come with me as I take you along with my workmates around this beautiful island right in the heart of the country.

around the island in an hour….!

April 3, 2010

First stop, Pulupandan! Daw ala Marcos Highway?

hmmmm…

Next stop, Bago City. At least, i felt that way. Katahum sg ila ginhimo nga busay. Daw tuod-tuod gid.

La Carlota, here we come!

4th Stop: La Carlota City. Another crowd favorite is La Carlota City booth.

This is another place here in the province nga wala ko pa nakadtuan. Kung taga diri ka, storyahi ko. :)

7th Stop: Hinigaran. Wala ko di kasulod so wala gid ko may mahambal parti diri.. Kung kasulod ka, ikaw sugid. hehehehee :P

8th Stop: Binalbagan. Imbisibol (?).

9th Stop: Himamaylan City. A deserted and empty booth, Himamaylan’s. ti, wala gid ko may mahatag nga impormasyon diri, dugang pa nga wala pa ko diri kakadto. The booth looks like a fortress nga may mga hagdanan pakadto sa dalum (underground?) kag may tower sa babaw. Entirely built from stone. Daw guba nga simbahan.. ambot. :P Suno sa akon gamhanan nga mapa, ang himamaylan ika-3 nga syudad sur sg Bacolod city.

10th Stop: Kabankalan City. Can somebody enlighten me kun ano ni ang ga-curve nga may bato sa ibabaw? di ko kaintindi…  kag ang mga tawo nga napamangkot ko wala man hinalung-ong kun ano ina. Must be something really important kay ara gid da sya sa prente. Anyway.. Kabankalan booth is… a booth. :D

All i can remember is, deserted ini sya except for a sleeping (or was it dead?) dog nga gapanimahu. But i’ll bet my baog na kuko sa tiil nga may natabu na diri nga indi maayu.. shiver shiver shiver.

12th Stop: Cauayan. see 7th Stop.

13th Stop: Sipalay City. Ive been there so i can say that for a fact.

14th Stop: Hinobaan. Last stop for the south tour. I dont have anything good or informative to say about this booth so i’m not going to say anything na lang. :P OK. It’s a big booth.

Mahaw ta anay.. kapoy lagaw… Popcorn anyone? pahu? inasal? hotdog? pyaya? Buurp.

Pa-Norte na ta!

15th Stop: San Carlos City. Absent!

16th Stop: Calatrava. Wow! I wouldn’t mind. Madala lang ko kutson damudamu. :D Amo ni ang kweba na indi ka gid mahadluk magsulod, and this cave–er, booth, is courtesy of the Municipality of Calatrava. Diri gid ko nadugayan. Obvious gid nga feel at home ako diri, ehehehehe!

17th Stop: Toboso. Ambot kung diin dampi, yawan ko pangita.

18th Stop: Escalante City. I’m sure the people back there are really trying. Ini siguro ang rason kun ngaa asta subong daw may landong nga nagapabilin sa sini nga lugar.. Well. Sad.

Buron galing ang kwa sg camera so i dont think nga maconvinve ta kamo sina.. :P Ang Sagay city gali nahamtang sa Norte nga bahin sg Probinsya sg Negros Occidental.

20th Stop: Cadiz City. Here, the atmosphere is carnival-like. Sadya kag gahud. Ini ang pinaka entertaining nga booth so far. Weeeeeee!

21st Stop: Manapla. See 7th Stop liwat.

22nd Stop: Victorias City.

23rd Stop: EB Magalona. Wala ko nakit-an. talang nako.

24th Stop: Silay City.

25th Stop: Talisay City. Where oh where oh where art thou?

Finally! Home sweet home.

Amo ni sya kuno ang “Mother of all festivals”. And Chicken Inasal NEVER tastes better anywhere but here in Bacolod! may reklamo???

I get off here. Hope you enjoyed the ride. Til the next Panaad! :D

bulak, pinta, sa-ot, potpot kag iban pa

November 8, 2009

Kada ika-3 asta ika-5 nga adlaw sg November, ginahiwat sg mga pumuluyo sg syudad sg San Carlos ang Pintaflores festival. Ini isa ka colorful and meaningful celebration that features 2 main activities: the Nabingkalan (tattoo rituals) and the “Dances of Flowers”. Pintaflores has been ongoing since 1992, but this is my first time to experience it first hand.

Halin sa Bacolod City, mga 2 ka oras ang byahe pa San Carlos via Don Salvador Benidicto- less  if on a private vehicle. Barato lang ang pamasahe, and its a real treat for city dwellers pareho sa akon nga uhaw sa nature kag fresh air.

saot sg mga bulak

Wala ko na naabutan ang Pintalawas (body painting contest on the 3rd) pero nakahingagaw ko lantaw sg streetdancing competition.

Ari ang pila sa mga nakita ko nga performances during the festival.

Katahum gid sg mga costumes nila! It seemed to me nga gingastuhan kag gin-utihan gid ini.. and what surprised me more was the fact that most of the performers were kids!  Kag bisan pa nga nag-ulan, bira-bira man gihapon sila sa-ot. Maayo lang kay hinay man lang ang ulan kag nag untat man after a while. Isa lang ka grupo ang nakuhaan ko sg bidyu, kag timing man nga ang nakuhaan amo ang nagdaug later on- ang tribu Doc Kikik. Here is a portion of their very energetic performance.

Isa ka gab-i sa "kilometrahe Trese"

November 1, 2009

Nabatian ko bi nga may palagwaon didto (although i don’t have any idea kung ano). With who? or what? ti amon gin-usyuso…

waaaaaaah! may WHITE LADY!!!

This “White Lady” gali is a teaser for the Halloween presentation of Waxworks titled “Kilometrahe Trese”. When we bought our tickets at the door, we discovered that the ’show’ will be a walking exposition of an urban legend, a guided tour of negrense folklore like the agta, kama-kama, babaylan, as well as the locals ancient beliefs and rituals that are too shocking and horrid to believe nowadays.

Needless to say, excited gid kami maglantaw. Nadisappoint lang ako galing paghambal sg guide nga indi pwede maggamit camera or cellphone sa sulod. Yugs.

     Waxworks @ the Negros Museum

Indi man ako haladlukon, galing taas lang akon imahinasyon. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) the people behind me were too noisy (screaming and snickering) for me to concentrate on the story  being told by the guide (in a very theatrical fashion). Parading through the chambers, I have a vague memory of seeing bodies on fire, certain parts of bodies being offered to the gods, a dead body hanging on a rope, a lady in a gown (enkandtada?), and raising my hand to give my respect to an ugly looking old man without his shirt on (sya si Apo kuno). I was just starting to feel comfortable and appreciate the efforts of the presentors when the tour ended and we stepped out of the museum.

Apparently, my two companions felt shortchanged, judging from their expressions. I have to agree although i silently prayed kagina na tani matapos na dayon :P Well, as for me, it was still an exciting halloween adventure, albeit a short one.

Ara man akon dalagan sa kahadlok.

Baw andam ka lang Ramonito ka! May adlaw ka gid!!!

This is because of the Electric Masskara being held here every night for three days prior to the last day of the Masskara Festival.

Electric Masskara was created three years ago, initially to somehow distribute the traffic during the festival which was usually condensed at the Bacolod City Plaza. Now, this activity has become an event in itsel, gaining popularity really fast and drawing crowds from all over town. It When the clock strikes 6 pm, alll the shops, cafes, and restaurants  put out tables and chairs, kag may tagsa-tagsa nga gimik para mangin matahum kag masadya ang ila bahin sg kalsada. May mga giant masks, floats, music and mini concerts all throughout the night. Most of all, there is the Electric Masskara dance shows, where the dancers have very colorful, lighted masks and costumes which i think, was patterned after the bayles de luces, La Castellana’s festival (first week of January)

I have heard a lot about the Electric Masskara last year, so sini nga festival, nagtinguha gid ko nga maglantaw. I’m glad i did because i really enjoyed myself. Ka festive gid sg atmosphere sa Lacson Street when i got there (medyo gab-i na to), people were on the streets with their blinking lollipops (ambot kung ano sabor sadto kay wala ko ya nakatilaw, pero daw kanami lang tulukon hehehe), music was everywhere and there were huge spotlights! And when the dancers came up the ramps (yes, may mga rampahan nga nalapta sa kalabaan sg Lacson Street para sa mga dancers para makakita ang tanan kag indi mag ginutok, a lesson learned from the past activity), it was fantastic! Unfortunately, wala sg night capture capabillity ang akon digicam so i was not able to take a decent video :( ..

Anyway, here’s a few shots that i’d like to share with you. Thanks to Apple for accompanying me and being my patient guide.
